Why Shaheen Shah Afridi can be subject to PCB disciplinary action is explained
Shaheen Shah Afridi, the star pacer for Pakistan, could be disciplined for his uncooperative behavior during the recently finished T20 World Cup 2024, which was co-hosted by the USA and the West Indies. The Men in Green were eliminated from the game during the group stage.
According to Geo News, the 24-year-old allegedly skipped team talks before the big games at the main event. Shaheen’s attitude wasn’t the only thing that got him into a heated argument with coach Mohammad Yousaf during a training session.
Yousaf pointed out that Shaheen was bowling too many no-balls during the practise session, which sparked a heated discussion between the two. “Mohammad Yousuf should mind his own business and let Shaheen do what he was doing,” an insider told Geo News.
The insider would, however, respond, “This was nothing more than a routine case of heat-of-the-moment, so the chapter was closed there and then,” when questioned why the event was not reported to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Nevertheless, the event was mentioned in the report that the team administrators gave to Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, even though Shaheen apologized. “Everything that transpired throughout the World Cup campaign must be mentioned. The PCB chairman will make the final decision on the issue, according to an official.
Shaheen may therefore be unable to play in Pakistan’s next two Test matches against Bangladesh. One of the officials, though, disagreed with dropping the player and offered some other options instead.
“I would prefer to recommend that Shaheen’s NOC for overseas leagues be revoked. The PCB may choose to demote him from his A category contract. The chairman, however, has the last say over any decision made in this regard. He said, “He can even forgive the fast bowler.”
The first Test of the series against Bangladesh is slated to begin in Rawalpindi on August 21 with the second Test will begin in Karachi on August 30.
